by day after tomorrow? You know we have the foundation stones in and the walls up, and the neighbors will come over to help us raise the timbers for the roof, and flooring the attic also."
"I can have the basics ready -- corn bread, bacon and beans, and baked potatoes, ready by tomorrow. Then I can spend the rest of the time baking pies and making doughnuts. I have never fed a large group by myself, James. Do you think it will be enough?"
"I have faith in you, little wife** and know you will do great. We can't count on the weather, though. It is already October, and we could get snow anytime. At the very least, the rain is increasing and I want to get you and the children out of the tent and under a real roof."
"I'm surely looking forward to having a fireplace and heated home, James."
"Soon, Mary Ann. Richard is coming over to help me build the fireplace today. He has experience with them."

**Note: we do not have exact measurements, but according to James Sherrill's sister in her journal, he could plow with twelve oxen, that is, six pairs hooked up together. It is safe to say he was a very large, strong man. Mary Ann may have been up to about five foot six -- which would put her at least half a foot shorter than her husband, hence his endearment "little wife".
